Krishna Patel, MD. is board-certified in Ophthalmology and has completed advanced training in eyelid, orbit, tear duct system, and facial and cosmetic reconstructive surgery. Dr. Patel specializes in all areas of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery. She is one of the few surgical specialists in the field of Ophthalmology that focuses on the eyelid, tear duct system, as well as periorbital area. She has expertise in cosmetic procedures, such as blepharoplasty (removal of aged eyelid tissue from the upper and lower eyelids), brow lifts, Botox and fillers. In addition, she also is specially trained for functional oculoplastics and reconstructive surgery for conditions such as drooping eyelids or eyelid malpositions, tearing, blepharospasms, skin cancers or eyelid tumors, and orbital tumors and reconstruction.
Dr. Patel completed her BA/MD degrees at a combined six year undergraduate and medical program at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She completed her internship at Loyola University followed by her Ophthalmology residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Afterwards, she completed an intense, two year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery-sponsored fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Emory University.
Dr. Patel has been the author of numerous publications and book chapters within Ophthalmology. Her research interests include lacrimal and orbital pathology/cancers as well as ptosis and eyelid malpositions. She is very involved in teaching residents as an Assistant Professor and has helped coordinate several teaching sessions for residents.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of American Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
In her free time, Dr. Patel enjoys travelling, hiking, running, and playing the flute.
