Mei Zhou, M.D. is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon who specializes in inflammatory conditions of the eye (uveitis) in adults and children.

Education

Dr. Zhou earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Pennsylvania State University’s Honors College in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She earned her Medical Doctorate from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. 

Afterward, she went on to fellowship training at Northwestern University with world-renowned uveitis expert, Dr. Debra Goldstein. This training has given her the expertise to manage complex inflammatory disorders with a particular emphasis on steroid-sparing agents.  Additionally, she has expertise in ocular injections, lasers and cataract surgery. Dr. Zhou uses a collaborative approach, working with rheumatologists, internists and pediatricians for the optimal care of her patients.

Experience

Dr. Zhou has a rigorous academic background that complements her clinical practice. As a medical student, she was selected for the NIH clinical research training program where she spent a year studying uveitis and retinal disorders. In residency, she was awarded a young investigator award at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) conference. She has multiple publications on clinical research in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Ophthalmology.
