Jon P. Gieser, M.D. specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of the retina and vitreous for a broad spectrum of diseases including retinal detachment, macular holes, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Gieser earned a B. S. degree in Chemistry from Wheaton College after which he received his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed a residency at the University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Eye Center, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.
Dr. Gieser has published on topics including application of computer information technology on ophthalmology, advanced techniques for retinal surgery and retinal electrophysiology. He has done clinical research on new treatments for macular degeneration. He maintains an academic appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.
Dr. Gieser is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Gieser is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Illinois Medical Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
