Steven R. Lafayette, M.D., certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, provides comprehensive eye examinations for adults and older children. He diagnoses and treats medical diseases and disorders of the eye. He performs over one thousand two hundred surgeries annually. His areas of surgical expertise include cataract surgery and advanced technology intraocular lens implants (ATIOL).
Dr. Lafayette enjoys using premium astigmatism-correcting and multifocal intraocular lens options. In 2018, he began using the ORA intraoperative aberrometer during surgery to help fine-tune lens selection and placement when using ATIOLs.
Dr. Lafayette earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology at Louisiana State University and a Medical Doctorate from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
Dr. Lafayette is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has served in a leadership role on Wheaton Eye Clinic’s Board of Directors for 8 of his 15 years at the clinic.
Dr. Lafayette is married to a chef and enjoys jogging, playing golf, and birdwatching.
