Frini A. Makadia, M.D. specializes in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and cataracts.
Dr. Makadia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry at Duke University where she graduated with distinction. She graduated cum laude with her medical doctorate from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio and was awarded an Outstanding Academic Merit Scholarship. After finishing her medical internship at The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, she completed her ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville, Tennessee where she was awarded the Benchmark Award for Clinical & Surgical Excellence.
During a fellowship at The Ohio State Haevner Eye Institute, Dr. Makadia received advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of open angle glaucoma, closed angle glaucoma, low tension glaucoma, ocular hypertension, neovascular glaucoma, glaucoma suspect, and various other conditions. She performs diagnostic testing for glaucoma and provides both medical and procedural treatments. She offers a range of laser-based procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser peripheral iridotomy, YAG capsulotomy, and CPC diodes. She performs both minimally invasive glaucoma surgery as well as traditional filtering surgeries such as trabeculectomies and glaucoma drainage devices. In addition, her practice includes routine and complex cataract surgery with options for astigmatism correction.
Dr. Makadia is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Illinois Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Makadia has published and presented her research at both national and international scientific conferences. She has volunteered her time at Physicians Free Clinic in Columbus, Ohio.
