Susan J. Anderson-Nelson, M.D. specializes in diseases of the retina. She performs diagnostic testing and provides medical and laser treatment for a broad range of diseases affecting the back of the eye, including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Dr. Anderson-Nelson received a B.S. degree in Nursing from North Park College before graduating from Rush Medical College in Chicago. She completed her internship in Chicago at The Swedish Covenant Hospital where she was named Intern of the Year. Dr. Anderson-Nelson did her ophthalmology residency training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital which was followed by a retina fellowship also at Northwestern University.
Dr. Anderson-Nelson has been teaching ophthalmology residents and medical students at Cook County Hospital for 34 years. She participates in research studies for the care of AIDS patients. She is a frequent contributor to retinal conferences. Dr. Anderson-Nelson is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She volunteers at the Lawndale Christian Health Center.
Dr. Anderson-Nelson is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Anderson-Nelson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Illinois Medical Society, the DuPage Medical Society, the Christian Medical and Dental Association and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Anderson-Nelson is the Treasurer on the Executive Council for the Alumni Board for Rush Medical College.
